ABSTRACT
With the introduction of fast T1 (GRE) and T2 (HASTE, SSFSE, TruFISP) sequences, MRI has become a useful adjunct to sonography for prenatal diagnosis of a variety fetal and maternal disorders. In this exhibit, we share our experience over several years with this technique with an evidence-based review clarifying the most appropriate indications for this technique. The ability of MRI to improve characterization of variety of fetal abnormalities (CNS, chest, GI and GU systems), placental abnormalities (tumors, abnormal placentation, previa, accreta and percreta), maternal abnormalities (abdominal pain, vascular abnormalities, appendicitis) will be presented and limitations will be discussed. Based on a review of the literature, we will summarize current concepts regarding the strength of evidence on the role of obstetrical MRI in clinical practice.
